Ranchi, May 6 – In the aftermath of the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir on April 22 that claimed the lives of 26 people, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government. Speaking at the ‘Save the Constitution Rally’ in Ranchi, Kharge said that if the Modi government has admitted an intelligence failure, it must also take moral responsibility for the deaths of innocent civilians.
He pointed out that the victims were mostly tourists, and the central government has held Pakistan-backed terror groups responsible for the massacre. However, Kharge questioned the failure to act despite prior intelligence inputs.
“If Modi Was Warned, Why Weren’t Civilians Protected?”
Kharge alleged that PM Modi had received an intelligence warning about a potential attack in Kashmir and subsequently cancelled his scheduled April 19 visit to the region. “If the Prime Minister cancelled his trip due to a threat, why was the same intelligence not used to protect ordinary people? Why weren’t security forces, police, and border patrols alerted effectively?” he asked.
“Congress Stands with the Government on Terrorism, But Not on Silence Over Failures”
Reiterating his party's support for all strong actions against terrorism, Kharge said, “Congress will always stand by the nation against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. But accepting intelligence failure and then avoiding responsibility is unacceptable.”
“Nation First, Then Religion, Caste or Party”
Emphasizing the importance of national unity, Kharge declared, “The nation comes before any religion, caste, or political party. Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed their lives for this country. Mahatma Gandhi gave us freedom, only to be shot by a traitor. Today, the same divisive mindset is spreading again.”
Kharge Alleges Government Neglecting PSUs, Jobs and the Poor
The Congress President also accused the Modi government of weakening public sector units (PSUs) and denying jobs to marginalized communities. “Over 3 million government posts remain vacant, but this government refuses to fill them. Many PSU employees haven’t been paid in months. Their agenda is clear – shut down PSUs and snatch jobs from Dalits, Adivasis, and the poor,” he claimed.
Political Message in Jharkhand: Strong Opposition Tone Ahead of Elections
Addressing a massive crowd in Ranchi, Kharge signaled that Congress, in alliance with JMM and RJD, will intensify its campaign against the Modi government both at the Centre and in the state. The rally served as a platform to raise national issues while strengthening the party’s local base in Jharkhand.
The Pahalgam terror attack has become a flashpoint in national politics, with Congress demanding accountability beyond condolences. Kharge’s remarks in Ranchi indicate a clear shift in tone – from silent support on security matters to active demand for transparency and responsibility from the ruling government.
